For the South Centre, Gamani Corea’s active participation in the South Commission, and later as a member and Chair of the South Centre Board, was vital in the shaping of its institutional values and philosophies.
On the occasion of his birth centenary on 4 November 2025, this paper revisits some of Gamani Corea’s most notable contributions to promoting the cause of global South countries at the multilateral level, and considers his legacy and enduring relevance in the current international context.
