The workshop was co-organized by the Permanent Missions of Ecuador and South Africa to the United Nations in Geneva during the week of the 25th Ordinary Session of the Human Rights Council.
The workshop aimed at contributing to clarifying the ways in which a legally binding instrument on business and human rights would provide a framework for enhanced State action to protect rights and prevent the occurrence of human rights abuses. Feb. 25-26, First International Workshop on Intellectual Property and Public Policies, organized by IEPI and FLACSO, with the cooperation of the South Centre – Attended by Carlos Correa who was requested to give the opening address where he emphasized the need to integrate IP into national strategies. On Feb 27th the government of Ecuador opened for public consultation the text of the new package of IP laws drafted in the last two years.
