North-South Forum on Multilateral Cooperation in a World of Crises

This Forum was organised by the South Centre with the cooperation of the Government of Finland. The objective of the Forum is to generate discussions on the state of multilateral cooperation at this crucial juncture when the world faces multiple crises, challenges and possibilities, including in the global economy, in the environment including on climate change, and in health care (including Ebola, other emerging diseases, and antibiotic resistance). Workshops for patent examiners of the Indian Patent Office in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and New Delhi

Prof. Carlos Correa and Dr. German Velasquez from the South Centre visited the IP offices of Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and New Delhi to conduct four workshops with patent examiners from the four patent offices in India on examination of pharmaceutical patent applications from a public health perspective. Workshop on Human Rights and Transnational Corporation: Paving the way for a legally binding instrument, 11-12 March 2014

Background

The workshop was co-organized by the Permanent Missions of Ecuador and South Africa to the United Nations in Geneva during the week of the 25th Ordinary Session of the Human Rights Council.

The workshop aimed at contributing to clarifying the ways in which a legally binding instrument on business and human rights would provide a framework for enhanced State action to protect rights and prevent the occurrence of human rights abuses. IEPI,FLACSO and the South Centre: First International Workshop on Intellectual Property and Public Policies, 25-26 February, 2014

Feb. 25-26, First International Workshop on Intellectual Property and Public Policies, organized by  IEPI and FLACSO, with the cooperation of the South Centre – Attended by Carlos Correa who was requested to give the opening address where he emphasized the need to integrate IP into national strategies. On Feb 27th the government of Ecuador opened for public consultation the text of the new package of IP laws  drafted in the last two years.
